After 8 weeks of the CFB season, BCS rankings were finally released. There aren’t any surprises, but it is clear just how far off Ohio St. is at this point. They haven’t been #2 in the polls for several weeks now, and do not have a strength of schedule that will allow them to catch up with the other unbeatens this season. Even though they have the nation’s longest win streak, Ohio St. will need other teams to lose if they want to play for the national championship.
The big surprises this week were all of the upsets, as 6 of the top 11 teams lost. Upsets will come more now that we are in the tougher part of the season, but probably not as much as they did this week. Teams cannot take weeks off, and fans need to tune in every week as well. This is what college football is all about.
Ten teams remain undefeated. It seems like a lot, but there were 10 undefeated at this point last season, too. On the flip side, 6 teams are still looking for their first win of the season. Western Michigan plays 1-6 UMass this week, and could get their first win there. Southern Miss STILL hasn’t won since their 12-2 season in 2011. New Mexico St., Miami (OH), Hawaii, and Georgia St. are also still hunting for their first win. I hope they all find one eventually.
I don’t have any new stats this week, but if you’re looking for more about college football, check out the Grambling St. story if you haven’t already.
Next week I will update my conference champion predictions, and then Heisman candidates the first week of November.
